One thing have I asked of the Lord, that will I seek after: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze upon the beauty of the Lord and to inquire in his temple.
For he will hide me in his shelter in the day of trouble; he will conceal me under the cover of his tent; he will lift me high upon a rock.
I will offer in his tent sacrifices with shouts of joy; I will sing and make melody to the Lord.
– Psalm 27:4-10 ESV
Give Shelter is a justice initiative of Lead Them Home, a ministry that works toward loving LGBT+ people in the church by seeking to enhance church inclusion, increase family acceptance, protect against victimization, and nourish faith identity in LGBT+ lives.
Give Shelter kicks off with Giving Tuesday on November 27, 2018, to empower local church leaders and laypersons to provide direct support to homeless LGBT+ youth in their own city.
Joining Give Shelter is as simple as looking up the shelter closest to you, clicking “GIVE NOW”, and selecting an item off that shelter’s gift registry. Just like that, you can meet an immediate, tangible need of an LGBT+ individual.
Our hope is that this database will also increase U.S. church awareness of many shelters already going good work in their city, which could then foster even greater holistic support for homeless LGBT+ youth.
